Could one Honey Nut Cheerio cause baby food allergy?

by Amy

QUESTION: I want to give my 9 month old boy a honey nut cheerio. Could only one honey nut cheerio cause baby food allergy?

ANSWER: Hi Amy,

For your information, generally, every food can cause allergy in certain human (especially when it comes to babies).

As you may know, the kids, particularly babies are hypersensitive, because their immune system doesn’t know which is good and which is bad. For that reason, food allergy is quite frequently observed in young individuals including babies, which is lasting whole life, because there is no cure for allergy.

  • On the other hand, the allergy to some foods depends on the substances it contains. As I went through the Cheerio ingredients, it contains a lot of vitamins and honey, nuts and almond.

The last two ingredients (nuts and almond) are frequently causing allergies, which are lasting until the end of life. Every one could put the blame on this food for developing allergy, but it is quite possible for other foods to also cause an allergy.

The best thing to do is not to give this food to your kid until 3 or 5 years old. If you already given, and nothing happpened (your baby is ok); that means that your baby is not allergic neither to honey, nuts or almond.

But, if you have seen some slight rashes on his skin or your baby is not comfortable, please stop giving your baby this Cheerio and seek medical help.

If you want to know which ingredient caused allergy to your baby, you can discuss with your doctor the best way how to (by using test allergens).

    All the best!
